The 858 Mini Bionix II Test System

The winning Choice in Biomedical Testing
The 858 Mini Bionix® II testing system is designed around families of components, with each family being planned to provide the most utility and functionality. Every family is a complete, fully functional testing system.

Versatile
As testing needs and complexity change, the system can be upgraded from a basic controller to a single-station or multistation, computerized control system. The system is available as an axial-only system, as an axial/torsional system or as an axial/rotational system. MTS also offers a wide variety of extensometers, force transducers, grips, fixtures, and environmental chambers that can be used with the 858 system.

The standard Mini Bionix II system is designed to easily run fatigue cycles on biomaterials at frequencies up to 30 Hz. The standard axial system configuration accurately measures and controls static and dynamic tests. By adding a low-force transducer, the same system can easily and accurately run soft-tissue tensile and fatigue tests in the milli-Newton range. The axial/torsional system configuration adds the capability of controlling torsional moments, while the axial/rotational configuration provides multiturn rotational control or rate control for continuous rotation.

It is designed to fit conveniently on an existing laboratory bench, saving valuable floor space. ^ TOP

The MTS 858 Mini Bionix II test system was specifically engineered for:
  • Testing Biomechanical Constructs
    • Fatigue certification studies
    • Bone, joint, and soft tissue studies
    • Implantable orthopedic device studies
    • External prostheses studies
    • In vitro biomaterials studies
    • Studies of other medical and dental devices where material and structural properties of the device or device-tissue interface must be known.
  • Characterization of Biomaterial Properties
    • Yield and ultimate strength
    • Creep and viscoelastic characteristics
    • Fatigue characteristics
    • Fracture toughness and fracture mechanics
    • Modulus of elasticity
    • Poisson's ratio Wear characteristics
    • Coefficient of thermal expansion
    • Response characteristics
By including the torsional capability, the Mini Bionix II test system is optimized for simulation of biological forces and displacements
